The Lace Knittery loves a book that gives you more and this book not only has twelve colourful accessory patterns but also recipes and a walk. The designs include mitts, socks, hats and decorations. One of the recipes is a The Lace Knittery personal favourite to make…and eat Cranachan.
The Lace Knittery has a huge love of Shetland, Scotland and this wonderful designer. Her books are a joy to read with interesting patterns, essays about the landscape and even recipes. This book has a range of garment and accessory patterns with timeless and up to date designs.
We fell in love with this book at first sight at The Lace Knittery HQ. It is a book of eight varying patterns from beanies to sweaters using Stolen Stitches Nua Sport weight yarn. It is full of colour and cable design.
Fernhill is a farm a few miles away from The Lace Knittery and it is a special place to visit. They farm holistically and organically and have transformed the soil on the farm. The sheep breeds have been selected as most suitable for the environment and they are breed for the quality of their fleece. It is a magical place.
The yarn is spun into a two ply just over the border in Wales meaning total yarn mileage to The Lace Knittery is kept to a minimum.
This yarn forms part of The Lace Knittery Natural Selection where we naturally dye in house. The dyes are either foraged locally (often from the garden or outside The Lace Knittery HQ) or ethically sourced. At the end of the dyeing process only clear water is left.
Each skein is 100g/405m lace weight. It is soft to work with and easy to use.

This DK yarn from Fyberspates is something special. It is 100% superwash merino wool from Peru (no mulesing!) and is variegated. The dyeing process is twofold making each skein unique. If you want to use more than one in a project just alternate the skeins.
One skein will easily make a scarf and the feel and drape is superb. At The Lace Knittery we have used it in a variety of projects and the colour variations does not distract from any surface design.
Each skein is 115g/230m

We love a good hat pattern at The Lace Knittery and this book is full of them. From a range of designers there is something for everyone with fifteen in total using colour work and surface design. It also reminds me of trips to Loch Lomond and the stunning scenery.
In the word’s of The Lace Knittery’s youngest daughter ‘I want to knit every one’. Another great collection of eight hand knits from Marie Wallin for Rowan. It includes colour work, Fair Isle, and cable patterns.
The fourth collection by Marie Wallin for Rowan and this time exclusively for the wee ones. It is adorable with vintage inspired designs ranging from ages 2 to 10. Even though children at The Lace Knittery are now grown up young ladies it still makes me want to knit the designs.
Another beautiful book by Marie Wallin filled with gentle colours and classic, vintage inspired designs. My to do list of do want to knit at The Lace Knittery has just gone up by eight.

We keep bees at The Lace Knittery and the inspiration for this beanie hat comes from the old fashioned skeps. It is knitted in the round and multi sized. It can be knitted in multiple weight yarns and requires around 100m.
